That was a great speech day, our ninth in 10 years of being in business (we only missed one in 2011 due to the Tohoku disasters). Eighty-six children took part this year, and you can see from the video above that the kids gave it their all, thank you!
Congratulations go to book token winners Hano, Misa, Miyu, Kazunari, Yudai, Shota, Yua and Yui and to Disneyland ticket winners Mikiya, Shota, Kazuki, and Chura.
And well done to everyone who took part. The real reward is the experience of speaking in English in front of a big audience (OK, getting a Disneyland ticket or a free book is even better). But to all those who didn't win, there's always next year.
Oh, and thanks to Emma for taking the photos. Might be able to find a job for you here one day...
It's that time of year again. The kids of Tower English are preparing for Speech Day at Abisuta Great Hall on Sunday. See you at 12:30 (for kindergarten kids) or 1:15pm for elementary and junior high school-age children.
Congratulations to the 80 children who took part in the Tower English 2016 Speech Day.
From golfers to ukulele players, magicians to Taylor Swift fans and would-be Fuji TV announcers, everyone spoke about their passions, so it was hard to pick out any "winners" but we had only a limited number of prizes, so we picked the following to receive book tokens: Mutsuno, Eishin, Sana, Ryuichi and Aoi, and the three to receive Disneyland tickets were Yamato, Sayaka and Ami.
Thanks to all the children (and their parents) who worked so hard on their speeches. Here are just a few to give a taste of the day. The quality of the speeches was very high, I think the children worked especially hard. Everyone deserved their god medals. I'm sorry that we couldn't give Disneyland tickets to everyone.
This week, the children at Tower English are busy rehearsing for our annual speech day. This year, we'll be holding it at Abisuta community centre in the great hall. See you on Sunday afternoon.
Thanks to the100 students who took part and made this year's speech day the biggest in our history. Click on the YouTube video below and enjoy. We did.
To help the sixteen brave volunteers who are competing in a speech contest at the end of this month, I've started uploading videos of me reading the children's speeches for them to practice. Three of them are done, the rest I will try to do tonight. Good luck all!
Well done to everyone (62 children) who took part in the third annual Tower English speech day. We think it was a success, and a good experience for the kids, if not their nervous parents!
I will upload a YouTube video of the day, just as soon as I can figure out how to get it off my camera and onto my computer.
Here's Tower English's weekly three-minute lesson. This week it's how to give a speech, hosted by the magnificent seven students who are competing in a speech contest (with three other language schools). Here are a few tips!
Good luck to all seven, we're proud of you, whatever happens on Sunday.
Here's a great video by a New Zealand English teacher who lives in Hokkaido. Here, she explains the words to Stand By Me - you remember, the song the kids are practicing for speech day on July 19th. Check out her daily English videos here. She posts a new one every day!
Hello Tower English kids! Here's a video of Stand By Me, sung by John Lennon of the Beatles. But this video has the words. Get practising, because YOU will be singing it at the end of our speech day in July!
